These discoveries were enabled using the PS1 System operated by the PS1 Science Consortium (PS1SC) and its member institutions. The PS1 Surveys have been made possible through the combination of the Institute for Astronomy at the University of Hawaii, The Pan-STARRS Project Office, the Max-Planck Society and its participating institutes, the Max Planck Institute for Astronomy, Heidelberg, and the Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestial Physics, Garching, The Johns Hopkins University, the University of Durham, the University of Edinburgh, the Queen's University of Belfast, the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, the Las Cumbres Observatory Global Network, and the National Central University of Taiwan. Additional funding partially in support of this work from NFS grant AST 0907903, Harvard College Observatory.
The PS1 Medium Deep Survey (MDS) imaging data was processed using the PS1 Image Processing Pipeline on the PS1 cluster located at the MHPCC. Candidates were found in an analysis of the difference image catalogs from IPP of the unconvolved nightly stack images at the Queen's University Belfast and from a separate image differencing process on the unconvolved nightly stack images using the SMSN pipeline (Rest et al. 2005) on the Odyssey Cluster administered by the FAS-IT Research Computing Group at Harvard University.
Confirmed Events have been announced in CBETs (i.e.,1617, 1988, 2012, 2214, 2226, 2350) and ATELs (i.e., 2214, 2229, 2249, 2397, 2398, 2448, 2614, 2667,2680, 2719, 2793, 3190). Please reference the appropriate set of these announcements as well as the acknowledgement and website (http://www.ps1sc.org/transients) in all publications that utilize objects on this webpage.
Criteria for release of stationary transients:
- object with S/N>5 detection triggered for public release consideration (griz filters only, y-band excluded)
--A-- after 5.5 days, promoted for possible public release if detections in at least 2 different filters and at least 2 in the same filter with S/N>6
--B-- otherwise promoted if at least 3 detections with 2 in the same filter and a S/N>6 up to 10.5 days
- require at least 3 non-detections (S/N<3) prior to the first S/N>5 detection in either case
- known variables or sources with pre-event variability or lacking pre-event, non-detections are rejected to filter out variable stars, AGN/quasars, etc.
With the 5.5 day window, events will initially be released on a 6-7 day timescale.
